Selling Your Lladros - Part III - Selling to Dealers

In Part II - Local Venues, many of the aspects involving cost and time on your part were described. When selling to a dealer keep in mind the he or she must do similar things (which cost money), that the dealer is in business to make a profit, and that by buying your Lladro from you the dealer is taking a risk.

A Lladro dealer in the secondary market (the resale of usually retired Lladros) makes a profit by buying at a cost and selling at a higher price. In the business world the dealer gets the higher price by adding value. Most of the value added the dealer involves have the venue for the sale (to include a selection of products), providing a simple mechanism to execute the transaction, and standing behind the product sold. All of this costs money and influences what the dealer is willing to pay for your Lladro.

Let's say that you have a Lladro that you want to sell for $100.00. The dealer considers whether the market and the likelihood of selling your Lladro at a higher price will cover his or her expenses in adding value. Further, the dealer considers how much actual work will be involved (either personally or by an employee) and what that will cost. The price the dealer pays for your Lladro plus the cost a value added must be less than the dealer's sale price or the dealer looses money.

The dealer wants to buy low and sell high in order to cover the value added costs and make a reasonable profit. Why do you want to sell your Lladro and what value are you adding? If selling to a dealer isn't attractive, how about using an on-line auction? See Part IV
